Blue Wave? Conor Lamb Wins in Red Pennsylvania District

Yes, the district will soon be reconfigured.  Yes, it was razor close.  But last night’s victory for the Democratic Party in a congressional district that has been Republican for twenty years provides even more evidence that Republicans are in big trouble this November.

Democrat Conor Lamb now has over 700 votes over Republican Rick Saccone in a race that is a clear test of President Trump coattails. Trump held a campaign rally for Saccone only days ago.  The rally was a flashback to 2016 as Trump hurled insults at political enemies and journalists while cheering supporters stood in red hats and held signs behind him.

But Lamb, a Marine and a moderate, won. Even though it was close, a seat as Republican red as Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district should have been far out of reach from any Democrat.  But even after Republicans spent $10 million on the race, it wasn’t.  This is the type of win that indicates that many congressional seats around the country are likely in play and that a blue wave hitting the shore this November is a definite possibility.

Two hundred and thirty six days from now there will be a judgement at the polls that will likely provide a hard gut check to the Republican party and Donald Trump.  Whether they will pay any attention to it is an open question.
