Video: Jordan Peele Becomes First African American to Win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay

Director Jordan Peele, 39, a comedian, writer and Director, made history last night by being the only African American in Oscar history to win an Oscar for best original screenplay.  There have only been three African American nominees in the category in 90 years.

“I just won an Oscar. WTF?!?” tweeted Peele after receiving the best original screenplay award for Get Out.

“I stopped writing this movie about 20 times… I thought it was impossible. I thought it wasn’t going to work.”  It did work as Get Out became a massively successful film.

  1. Many Congrats to Jordan Peele! The structure of his thriller brilliantly builds up major chills as well as major laughs!

On a side note, I’m curious what the little gold antler pin on his left lapel (other actors wore it too) is for and if it was the Academy that gave it to him. Black antlers were superimposed on the Oscar’s stage floor framing the central presenter mike.
