Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) had a busy day yesterday. As Congressional Black Caucus Chair he took a vote of members during their weekly meeting on whether to meet with President Trump (as a group). Before that meeting, Richmond challenged Rep. Steve King (R-IA) after King compared crime in the central American country of Guatemala, which has one of the highest murder rates in the world, to Richmond’s hometown of New Orleans. La.
Here is how that went.
As a member of Congress representing the city of New Orleans, Richmond challenged Rep. Steve King (R-IA) after King compared the city Richmond represents to Guatemala regarding crime.
As usual with Steve King, he speaks in unspecific terms when talking about black and brown people. King used the word “crime” but no specific reference to what types of crime in particular. The comparison to Guatemala and New Orleans is strange because, when it comes to murder, there is no comparison.
