PRIMARY DAY IS JUNE 13. Virginia candidate for Lt. Governor candidate Justin Fairfax has wrapped up all the major endorsements in the race and has a 2-1 money lead over his closest challenger. Fairfax has also won 15 straw polls in a row over the course of his campaign, including a large straw poll held on St. Patrick’s Day at a popular annual event held by Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA).
The primary is Tuesday, June 13. While much of the attention is going to the Governor’s contest between current Lt. Governor Ralph Northam and Bernie inspired candidate Tom Perriello, Justin Fairfax may make history on the day of the primary as the only African American running statewide in 2017.
In a new ad released today, Fairfax focused on resistance to Donald Trump.
Fairfax’s recent endorsements include a set of announcements of support from officials in central Virginia that include former Secretary of Administration and Lieutenant Governor Candidate Viola Baskerville, State Senator Rosalyn R. Dance, 16th District, Delegate Lashrecse Aird, 63rd District, Delegate Jeffrey Bourne, 71st District, Delegate Lamont Bagby, 74th District, Delegate Roslyn Tyler, 75th District, City Councilmember Kimberly Gray, Richmond, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Michael Herring, Richmond, County Board of Supervisors Former Chairman Tyrone Nelson, Henrico, Commonwealth’s Attorney Cassandra Conover, Petersburg, City Treasurer Kevin A. Brown, Petersburg and Sheriff Vanessa Crawford, Petersburg, as reported in Blue Virginia.
More announcements of support are likely for a candidate who leads in fundraising, ad buys and political support. Fairfax has two challengers: Former DOJ official Gene Rossi and longtime tobacco lobbyist Susan Platt.
