Trump, Bannon Continue to Focus Policy Against Anyone Who Doesn’t Look Like Them

The Trump/Bannon War Against Black and Brown. During the 2016 campaign there was Donald Trump’s incessant and obsessive talk about violence in Chicago and “getting shot walking down the street.”

Then, Trump entered the White House and signed an executive order that instituted a travel ban focused on Muslims. Next were the ICE driven round-ups of Mexican immigrants as the Trump Administration is consistent in focusing policy against anyone who is Black or Brown.

During a joint session of Congress, Trump received audible groans from members at the mention of a new office of “Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement.” Never mind that immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than natural born citizens. Never mind that the crime rates in the U.S. are at a 45 year low. Trump’s entire focus on violence would make any casual observer believe that Black and Brown people are the only ones who commit it.

The open racism of a “Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement Office” would make George Wallace blush. But the words have real meaning as the Administration turns talk into real policy.

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos attempted to erase the racist reasons historically black colleges and universities were created to educate African Americans on the same day she met with HBCU Presidents and the Library of Congress. What next? Who knows.
