VA Politics: Lt. Gov. Candidate Justin Fairfax Raises $480,000 in 2016

Attorney Justin Fairfax, who is likely to be the only African American running a statewide race in 2017, raised an impressive $480,000 from 1,100 donors in 2016.

Fairfax, who is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, is running for Lt. Governor of Virginia in 2017. The primary is in June.  There is currently no one who is likely to compete with Fairfax running against him and he is on track to become the Democratic nominee.

Yesterday, former progressive Congressman Tom Perriello made a surprise entry into the race for Virginia’s Governor and will go up against the current Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam.  If Fairfax is joined on the Democratic ticket by Perriello for 2017 it’s clear that new faces and new politics will be the theme of 2017 for Virginia’s Democrats.

Fairfax is hosting a Northern Virginia campaign kickoff on Saturday, January 7th.
