“His comments are offensive and wrong, and he should retract them,” Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte told NBC during an interview today.
Ayotte is one of nine Republican Senators facing tough elections with the prospect of Donald Trump joining them on the ballot on November 8. Trumps’s verbal high wire act is almost certain to put certain Senate races in jeopardy as his name is expected to be on the top on the November ballot.
In yet another round of controversial statements, Trump asserted that a federal judge, Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is the presiding judge on the Trump University case has a conflict of interest as a result of his “Mexican heritage.”
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell dodging calling Trump’s Curiel comments racist is the problem. “This is precisely the type of failure that gave rise to Donald Trump,” Reid said. The GOP continues to hold on tight to Southern Strategy infused politics.
Trump is putting the dedication to that strategy to the ultimate test with a barrage of controversial statements about the fast growing demographics, Latino voters, in the U.S. Tomorrow’s California primary results should reveal how counter productive the strategy is.
