As first reported in Deadline Hollywood, “a movie about iconic abolitionist Harriet Tubman is in development from Seith Mann who is the director of the series “Homeland.” No word yet on who will play Tubman. Work on the film is scheduled to begin in early 2017.
According to the Department of the Treasury, Harriet Tubman will soon be on the $20. Tubman is a civil rights legend who was born into slavery but escaped in 1849. Starting with her family, Tubman completed over a dozen rescue missions that led to freedom for over 1,000 people. Tubman was also a nurse, a spy for the Union Army and a leader in the women’s suffrage movement.
In 1978, Cicely Tyson played Harriet Tubman in a TV movie called A Woman Called Moses and Viola Davis is working on a film about Tubman for HBO.
