#BlackLivesMatter Activist Deray Mckesson Running for Mayor of Baltimore

Top #BlackLivesMatter activist Deray McKesson, popularly known as an activist against police brutality, is running for mayor of Baltimore.

Late on Wednesday night, Mckesson filed to run for mayor and submitted paperwork right before the 9 p.m. deadline.

“Baltimore is a city of promise and possibility,” the Black Lives Matter activist told The Baltimore Sun yesterday. “We can’t rely on traditional pathways to politics and the traditional politicians who walk those paths if we want transformational change,” he added.

Twenty-eight people filed to run for mayor.  Current mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will not run for reelection.  Other folks running include Sheila Dixon, State Sen. Catherine Pugh, City Councilmen Carl Stokes and Nick J. Mosby (the husband of Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby), as reported by TheRoot.

But Mckesson, 30, who is a native of Baltimore, is an exciting entry.
