After dipping down last month, Black unemployment rate back up to 9.5 percent for August from 9.1 percent in July. As usual, the Black unemployment rate is about double the overall rate. In August, 173,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy. The overall unemployment rate of 5.1 percent is the lowest since April 2008.
In July 2014, the Black unemployment rate was 10.7 percent. The stat has come a long way since it was 16.7 percent in September 2011. Back in September 2011, as the Black Caucus went on a five city jobs tour, the Black unemployment number was 16.7 percent.
