Yesterday evening, the Democrats lost their majority in the Senate as the Republicans picked up seven seats. In the House of Representatives, the GOP built on its majority by gaining more than 50 seats. In essence, this was a bloodbath for the Democrats. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky beat his Democratic opponent by a substantial margin and will now be the majority leader in the Senate in the new session of congress.
Last night’s election victory for the Republicans puts them squarely in a position to govern. They will be forced to produce results beyond opposing President Obama’s policies.
