Only one of 41 women in the 11,000 member New York City Fire Department, Bronx native Danae Mines knew that she would be a long shot participant in the department’s annual calendar that typically only features men.
Cover photos of New York City’s buff bravest have been an exciting feature of the calendar. But Mines tried out for the calendar and she made it. The 11-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department is the first woman to even be featured on the calendar.
The annual New York City Firefighter calendar is a charitable effort effort that assists the FDNY Foundation. All proceeds from the $17.95 calendar go to the foundation. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the foundation is “the not-for-profit arm of the FDNY which was established to promote fire safety education for residents of New York City.”
The 2015 calendar that features Mines and eleven other members of New York City’s bravest can be purchased online here.
