Congressman Ed Pastor (D-Arizona) has announced that he would be retiring at the end of his current term. In an announcement posted on Facebook, Rep. Pastor said, “After 23 years in Congress serving the people of Arizona, I have decided that I will not seek re-election this year. It has been a great honor and experience, but it is time for me to close this chapter of my life and start a new one.”
Rep. Pastor represents Arizona’s 7th congressional district, which is solidly Democratic. He has championed civil rights, reproductive rights, and animal rights.
State Representative Ruben Gallego has already declared that he would seek this seat. He’s an Iraq War veteran and Harvard graduate who has been involved in the effort to recall Maricopa Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
