The Washington Informer and the Washington Times are reporting that D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray has ordered a citywide freeze. The freeze, which continues current policy, applies to on hiring and salary of all D.C. government agencies.
Mayor Gray took the action by way of executive order. As a result of Gray’s decision, all hires and raises in Washington D.C must be approved beforehand by the city administrator. The policy has been in place since 2011 according to the Mayor’s office. The city is required by law to have a balanced budget though Congress has control of the city’s finances.
