LOS ANGELES — Today thousands of immigrant rights activists and allies marched through the streets of Los Angeles demanding immigration reform that would bring some 11 million undocumented people out of the shadows and into the legitimate economy. A multi-ethnic coalition of union and immigration activists organized speakers, musicians, and their organizational members to march from Olympic and Broadway in downtown to La Placita Olvera for a final rally and concert.
May Day is International Workers Day, and since 2000, immigration activists have come out on this day in the United States to highlight their plight as workers. Today’s march in Los Angeles was not as large as the 2006 May Day when some 400,000 people marched through the city.
Below are some pictures taken along the route through Broadway in downtown Los Angeles.
