Today at CPAC, former Alabama Democrat-turned-Republican Artur Davis appeared to take a swipe at former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Davis talked about the burden of student debt with a makers/takers twist to it.
“The Americans I’m describing aren’t takers, they aren’t living off the government dime, they’re helping fund this government as much as anyone at that dinner last night. The difference is that when Washington takes their money, they feel it more strongly than many of us did,” Davis said.
Speaking of college students, he said, “they are trying to pursue one of the most inherently conservative values in this society…preparing yourself so you can rise without depending on anybody to take care of you,” Davis added.
