What Makes This Person a Game Changer: Brigitte Daniel is the executive vice president of the Philadelphia-based Wilco Electronic Systems, one of the last remaining African American owned cable operating systems in the US and the company her father founded when she was born. Motivated by what “addressing the plight of those who are underserved by offering accessible, affordable and advanced technologies that empower their communities, ” in 2011, , she and her company joined a public-private partnership in 2011 to distribute laptops and provide computer and Internet literacy training to Philadelphia’s low-income and disadvantaged residents. A multi-million dollar National Telecommunications and Information Administration Broadband Technology and Opportunities Program Grant funded the partnership, known as the “Philadelphia Freedom Rings,”. Prior to working at Wilco, Daniel served as the compliance officer at the Minority Business Enterprise Council and the director of business development and governmental affairs for the Academy of Screen Arts in Ghana. Daniel is a graduate of Spelman College, where she earned her bachelors in art and women’s studies, a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and a an alumna of the minority business program at Dartmouth University’s Tuck School of Business.
