Washington — Don’t tell it to any Republicans.

But actress Taraji P. Henson said on Monday night that President Obama needed an election victory because now he can really get to work.

“I’m a huge Obama supporter and I thought that his first term he was just getting started and that’s why we needed this second term because now he doesn’t have to worry about being re-elected,” Henson told Politic365.

“Now he can take care of business and I think that’s what he plans to do,” she continued.

The “Person of Interest” TV star made her comments back in her hometown of Washington, DC during a red carpet interview with Politic365. She was at the Harman Center for the Arts where the Creative Coalition’s 2013 Inaugural Ball was held.

Other black actors spotted on the red carpet included Omar Epps (House), Marlon Wayans (White Chicks), and Andre Royo (The Wire). Reverend Jesse Jackson was in attendance too.

Henson, known for her work in film director John Singleton’s “Baby Boy” (2001), playwright-turned-movie director Tyler Perry’s “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” (2009), and more recently comedian Steve Harvey’s “Think Like a Man” (2012), said that she hopes the president just keeps pushing ahead for what he believes in.

“He believes in the middle class and America will not make it without the middle class,” Henson said.

And Henson thinks that “Scandal” – one of the most talked about politically-themed shows coming into the New Year – starring Kerry Washington, another black actress, is amazing.

“I’m so happy for my sister Kerry Washington,” Henson said. “It’s just an incredible [show]. And Shonda Rhimes her writing is brilliant. It’s an amazing show and I’m very proud of them.”

Her next film project “No Good Deed” with Idris Elba is scheduled to come out in January 2014.

Proceeds from the inaugural ball went to the Creative Coalition.
