Originally from Detroit, Michigan, William Thomason has over 20 years of investment experience as a buy-side analyst and Portfolio Manager for both a mutual fund and a hedge fund managing traditional and alternative investments. He also was a Financial Analyst for the Bay Area Equity Fund a community development venture capital fund that was founded in partnership with JP Morgan. Currently, he is a Venture Partner with E3 Innovation Fund, LLC in Oakland, California. A community development venture capital fund that makes private investments in innovative companies in the areas of technology, health care and clean energy.

He is the founder of the Wall Street Wizards Urban Financial Literacy Program a non-profit, community based financial literacy program for urban youth in the SF Bay Area and New York. The Wall Street Wizards mission is to help urban youth understand the importance of personal money management, investing and wealth accumulation through real world application and education. In addition, the program also seeks to expose these youth to careers and opportunities in the financial sector through internships and entrepreneurial training.

A frequent contributor to Black Enterprise Magazine, he was selected as one of the top 75 Blacks on Wall Street by the magazine. He is often quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Barrons, Smart Money, CNBC and other financial press. Bill is currently on the Board of three privately held companies and works as an advisor to a few more.

He is the author of  “Make Money Work for You, Instead of You Working for It – Money Lessons from a Portfolio Manager” published by John Wiley and Sons 2006.
