Zuraya Tapia-Hadley currently heads the Mexican American Leadership Initiative at the U.S. Mexico Foundation. Prior to this position, she was Executive Director at the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA). As the HNBA’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Administrator, she directed the day-to-day operations and supported the HNBA Board of Governors in the development and execution of programs and policies.
In addition to her experience leading a national organization, throughout her career she has held positions in national policy and legislative affairs in the U.S. at NDN (a DC-based leading advocacy group), as staff in the U.S. House of Representatives, by working with U.S. and foreign government officials on key policy initiatives, and she began her career in private law practice at Shaw Pittman LLP.
She is a regular commentator in Spanish-language media on policy issues and trends primarily affecting the Latino community in the U.S. and a panelist on issues regarding immigration and diversity. She obtained the degree of Licenciatura en Derecho from Universidad de las Américas, Puebla and a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law from Georgetown University Law Center.
