Univision News will host two “Meet the Candidates” events this week with President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney. The forums will focus on issues facing the Hispanic community.
The events were created after the Joint Center for Policy Studies sent a letter suggesting the idea of the one-on-one sessions to the Commission on Presidential Debates in a letter pointing out the lack of diversity among moderators selected by the commission. President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney agreed to do the one-on-one sessions shortly after the complains that there were no Black of Latino moderator at a time when issues facing those communities are growing in scope.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will participate in a one-on-one conversation with Univision on September 19, 2012. President Obama will take part in a one-on-one session on September 20, 2012.
Both events will be streamed online at 10 p.m. EST on each night and are the first-ever events of their kind targeting Hispanic Americans. The sessions will take place in front of a live audience at the University of Miami BankUnited Center Fieldhouse.
Both sessions will be moderated by Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas of Univision’s national evening newscast “Noticiero Univision” and streamed on the Univision Noticias Facebook page at (http://www.facebook.com/univisionnoticias).
