World Changers Church International founder and pastor Creflo Dollar is in the hot seat, although his attorney said that today he will be in the pulpit. After the pastor’s 15-year-old daughter told authorities Friday that Dollar choked and punched her because she wanted to attend a party, some wonder if the megachurch leader has minimum self-control.
The alleged victim’s 19-year-old sister supported the minor’s version of events, but Dollar denies wrongdoing. He said that he attempted to restrain her and spanked her for disrespect. Dollar faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children.
Dollar’s ascension to prominence stems largely from turning an intimate worship environment into a church of thousands in College Park, Georgia and New York. World Changers Church International also has satellite churches in metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Cleveland and Washington D.C.
According to Dollar’s website, his goal is to establish 500 global satellite churches. The site also reported that the leader had his “vision” for World Changers Ministries while holding service in an elementary school cafeteria with only eight people in attendance.
Still, some wonder how the church founder will be seen legally in coming days and weeks. Dollar’s wife, Taffi, said that she did not see the incident.
