Hilda Pinnix-Ragland is an executive at Progress Energy, a Fortune 500 energy company with 23,000 megawatts of generation capacity and approximately $9 billion in annual revenues. She is chairwoman of the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges. Appointed in 2005, she was the first woman and the first African-American to head the board that oversees the state’s community college system, one of the largest in the country. In 2008, Governor -elect Beverly Perdue appointed Pinnix-Ragland to her transition team after criticism that it was not diverse enough.
