Bobby Rush Wears Hoodie on House Floor During Trayvon Speech

#Trayvon: Rep Bobby Rush of Illinois Wears Hoodie on House Floor fro Trayvon Speech

Rep Bobby Rush of Illinois caused a stir on the House floor this morning during “one minute” speeches as he took off his suit jacket revealing a gray hoodie underneath.

Though he was gaveled several times by Rep. Greg Harper who was presiding as the acting Speaker, Rush continued speaking until finally the mic was cut off. Parliamentarians scrambled as Rush continued talking and quoting a bible verse wearing a gray hoodie (no insignia). Rush said later that he used verses from the bible in part to avoid having his words stricken from the record.

A call went out on U.S. Capitol Police radios that “a protester was on the floor” as Rep. Rush continued his speech.

Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager returning from 7-Eleven, was shot to death by George Zimmerman on February 26, 2012. Zimmerman has not been arrested.
