If racism were a map, this is what it would look it.
The math should be simple, but the politics are borderline racist. The 2010 census managed to appropriate Congressional representation according to a set population of 710,767 people each district in the United States – unconditionally. Since 2000, the Bronx grew by 3.9%, to a population of 1,385,108 people. Further census analysis shows that the Latino population in the Bronx has increased, as well, representing a clear majority with 53.5%. It is the largest growing minority in New York City.
Therefore, you’d think the Bronx boom would give Latino Bronxites greater representation, perhaps even a second district redrawn for their clear majority … right?
Wrong.
Cuts are being proposed to chop up the Bronx into little pieces to reduce its political power. The plans pin Latino and African American elected officials against each other, deciding the fate of the district currently held by Congressman Charlie Rangel. His district, currently the 15th, is now being proposed to move up towards the Norwood area of the borough.
Already one Bronx State Senate district proposal cuts one neighborhood in half and gerrymanders two of the most affluent areas with two of the poorest; giving one socio-racial-economic group advantage over another. But the State Assembly controlled by the Democrats under Speaker Sheldon Silver, and the State Senate controlled by Republicans under Majority Leader Dean Skelos failed to come to an agreement on Congressional districts altogether.
Because of this, Judge Roanne Mann was named a “special master” and tasked with drawing congressional district lines if the Assembly and Senate do not act soon enough. Under the US Magistrate judge, the Bronx would be divided into 4 congressional districts, 3 of which are coming in from Manhattan, Queens, and Westchester County. The Bronx is currently represented by three Congressional districts. Two of these are already held by politicians outside the borough. Most of the gerrymandering has occurred in the congressional districts of white incumbents whose districts merge into Bronx County.
Manhattan State Senator Adriano Espaillat has already taken advantage of district disenfranchisement, forming a congressional campaign committee. That’s due in part to the current redistricting lines on the table allowing him to run for Congress in an area he has never served or lived in. Senator Espaillat states “while it’s premature to target one particular district, given the fact that final district lines have not been settled, launching this exploratory committee is an important step in making sure we are ready, when the final district lines are established.”
This is a critical time for the future of the Bronx. Latino elected officials are furious over what can only be seen as a direct oppression of the expanding Latino voting bloc native to the Bronx, and emerging across New York City. Members of the powerful Black, Hispanic and Asian caucus expressed “utter disappointment with parties responsible for proposing Congressional district lines that by their nature dilute the voting power of communities of common interest.” Assemblyman Carl Heastie is chair of the Bronx Democratic County Committee and has been instrumental in fighting for a fair redistricting process on behalf of all Bronxites, citing that “Bronx residents deserve better than be designated as minorities in the minority. In fact, we are regarding said proposals as a slap in the face, intent on weakening the growth and unity of the electorate.”
While the redistricting battle continues, it seems that with the gridlock in Albany the political future of the Bronx will be determined by one person: Judge Roanne Mann. Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. wrote a letter to Judge Mann, which was signed by the entire Bronx democratic committee. In closing, it stated that the “new congressional district lines should mirror the success that has occurred in the Bronx, and not dilute our political influence for the benefit of other counties. Emerging new and well established communities should not be divided to dilute their growing electoral power. The people of the Bronx have a right to be able to determine who their representatives will be, and their will should not be subjugated through the political machinations of any other county.”
In other words, when the final lines are drawn, let them be representative of the population as a whole, not along racial lines or for the benefit of political elites. Latinos are now the emerging majority in the Bronx and we are not going anywhere.

Asia for Asians, Africa for Africans, White countries for everyone????????
Everybody says there is this RACE problem. Everybody says this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into White countries.
The Netherlands and Belgium are more crowded than Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve this RACE problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.
Everybody says the final solution to this RACE problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY White countries to "assimilate," i.e., intermarry, with all those non-Whites.
What if I said there was this RACE problem and this RACE problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries?
How long would it take anyone to realize I'm not talking about a RACE problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem?
And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn't object to this?
But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the White race, Liberals and respectable conservatives will just say that I'm a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews.
They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-White.
Anti-racist is a code word for anti-White.
Look up the history of gerrymandering and you will see that Race matters when other ethic groups gain a majority in a particular district and like clock work, the political elites move in and divide that district into pieces. Every time it has been done (especially in the south and now the south west) it has been catalyzed by race.
We have a representative democracy in the USA (which "belonged" to native Americans first and foremost) and when I see one group disenfranchised from the process via gerrymandering I'm not going to stay silent, I'm going to speak up because I am an American. To do so would be unpatriotic.

So what's the solution? Pack all of the minorities into a few districts so they're gaurentueed representation in congress or spread them out amongst other districts to attempt competative elections? Either way, there is someone getting screwed, and that person will scream racism. You're either packing votes to lower the number of districts minorities can win or your cracking votes to dilute and disenfranchise minorities. Its all a load of bull. People in power want to stay in power and they don't like it when things change, no mater what color or creed. I say we feed the number of people in which houses into a computer that randomly assigns districts that make sense (circular, rectangular, contiguous, non-salamander like……). Until then its all garbage designed to keep everyone's vote from mattering.
The map of global genocide:Mass immigration and "assimilation" forced on all white countries and ONLY white countries.
No one says that a 100% Black neighborhood needs more diversity.
No one says that a 100% Asian neighborhood needs more diversity.
No one says that a 100% Muslim neighborhood needs more diversity.
According to anti-Whites, they are already 100% diverse.
All White neighborhoods and only White neighborhoods need to be more diverse. White neighborhoods only stop needing to be more diverse when there are no White people left in them.
Anti-racist is a codeword people HIDE BEHIND to be anti-White.
Gentlemen, the Bronx is already overwhelmingly Latino. The issue is that in spite of that clear majority, the entire borough is cut into little pieces so that no bronxite can run for congress on behalf of the majority.
Did you all even read the entire article? Or are you just commenting on the title. History on this topic does not play in your favor; the racial undertone of gerrymandering unequivocal.
Elvin,
I read the whole article and you are on point. These posters You are taking issue with are likely ‘afflicted’ white males who believe their country is being diluted by minorities and, consequently have very similar mindsets to the political elites carving up these districts like a Thanksgiving turkey!
