The 10 Worst Moments of Disrespect Towards President Obama

ap_obama_jan_brewer_lt_120125_wblog

It starts from the Superiority Syndrome: People acting as if they’re more important than a U.S. President — when they clearly are not.  To fingers in the face.  To people questioning his already established and proven citizenship.

The incidents of disrespect towards President Obama continue.

When people criticize Administration policy, that’s just politics.  But several incidents directed at this President appear to find new lows.  Of course, people can disagree with the President. But, why can’t people respect the Office of the Presidency?

The very public nature of disrespect towards President Obama is noteworthy.  Did Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) have to conduct business with the President in front of reporters?  Wasn’t there a better time and place? Would a visiting leader from a foreign country be greeted with a finger in his face by a Governor? If not, why would it happen to the leader of our own country? Could a hockey goalie have executed a quiet no-show for a White House invitation honoring his team? See Facebook for the answer on that one.

It wasn’t the end of the world when Speaker John Boehner refused the President’s date to speak to a joint session on jobs in September 2011.  And yes, the White House picked that date to steal attention from a GOP debate.  But like so many moments of disrespect towards the 44th President: No one can find another example in American history where a U.S. President requested a date to address Congress and was refused. Can anyone find another incident like the Brewer one?  That the list below can even be compiled is telling.

1. The birther fiasco (2009-2011). No evidence. No proof. No documentation.  But the story traveled on for years. Yes, Hawaii is part of the United States of America.

2. “You lie” (Sept. 2009). That any individual — no less a member of Congress watching a U.S. President during a joint session on live national television — is so lacking in self control that this moment was made possible is incredible — even in an age of incivility. Remember this happened only nine months into Obama’s presidency and is another “we can’t remember that ever happening ever before” moment. Close your eyes and pretend Rep. Maxine Waters was Wilson doing this to President Bush and image the reaction.

3. Signs of the Tea Party (July 2010) and Naked Racism (April 2011).  Anyone remember California GOP official Marilyn Davenport’s racist e-mail? Did she ever resign for that?  I remember all the criticism of the NAACP – particularly from Black Republicans — for their “Tea Party resolution” of 2010.  Where was that indignation regarding what can be viewed in this video? Click here.

4. Donald “unchecked ego” Trump inflames birther fiasco, media assists (April 2011). The mouth of Donald Trump is a powerful thing when joined with a 24-hour cable news cycle desperate for viewers.  That news organizations invited Trump on the air unchallenged with zero proof of what he was saying speaks volumes on the state of journalism.  That Trump was completely comfortable demanding that a U.S. President “show him his papers” displays a superiority complex that exists among those who can’t accept someone they view as “lesser” in a position of power over them.

4. Deadbeat dad and probable one-termer thinks his presence before the President actually matters and needs to tell everyone (Sept 2011).  The disrespect isn’t that probable one term Congressman Joe Walsh (R-IL) wouldn’t attend the President’s Sept. 8 speech. The disrespect is that Rep. Walsh actually believed that everyone knowing he wasn’t attending was important.  That he needed to announce he would not attend on national television, as if anyone cared, was yet another delusional superiority episode.  That proudly showing public disrespect towards the President is a winning strategy in some political circles reveals a lot.

5. Newt Gingrich’s “Kenyan anti-colonial behavior” comment (Sept 2010). Even Washington Post columnist and conservative thinker George Will slammed this attempt to define the President as “foreign.” Never mind the facts: President Obama wasn’t reared by his father in Kenya with whom he spent only a month of his 50 years on this earth. The strategy to define the President as a “foreign” or “alien” being was started by Sarah Palin in 2008.

6. One of the underlying premises of disrespect towards the President is that he can be ordered around and dictated to like he’s Tipi the laundry boy.  The presumption that a U.S. President can be ordered around is a new phenomenon that appears to have gotten underway around January 2009.  From big mouth Congressmen to millionaires with nothing to do, you name it — they all inherently believe they can order President Obama around.  At least Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is an actual leader of something. Regardless, read this and ask yourself if you think this would have happened to Presidents Bush, Reagan or Clinton.

7. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer puts her finger in the President’s face (January 2012). The photo speaks for itself.  Of course there are strong political disagreements between President Obama and Gov. Brewer.  But is it just possible there was a better time and place for this conversation?  Brewer said she felt “a little threatened” by President Obama. Please.

8. GOP House, prompted by Tea Party — refuses to raise debt ceiling (Aug 2011). Sounds like this was just hardball politics right? Let’s review the facts: The debt ceiling had been raised 69 times since 1962 without incident.  Seven times during Bush II and 18 times during Reagan.  Suddenly, with President Obama, a shiny new precedent is set with regard to raising the debt ceiling.  Another never before seen incident is born.

9. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Publicly Announces His Top Political Priority (Dec 2010). McConnell wants the President out of office?  No news there, but, wait, there’s more to it. “Our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny President Obama a second term,” Sen. McConnell told the Heritage Foundation.  Of course the Senate Republican Leader doesn’t want the President to be re-elected.  But what’s with the public announcement? In July 2010 McConnell acknowledged his single most important political goal: President Obama being a one-term President. Again: In public and on national television.

10. Speaker Boehner refuses speech date request (September 2011). No it is not the end of the world.  Of course, the White House intentionally wanted to step on a GOP debate that same night. But, this is yet another first in American history. Once again, no one can find another instance where a President of the United States requested a date to address Congress and was refused.

  2. Obama deserves no respect. He’s a bully, pseudo-arrogant, nasty, complete low-life… a glorified drug deal in my opinion.

    • You can use all the unprintable names you want to describe the president, and continue to hide behind your right to free speech, when you know for a fact that even if Obama were to change water into wine, and walk on water, he will never be qualified enough to be America’s president, because he is wearing a wrong color.
But you know what? You are in the minority. That is the precise reason Obama is the president today. Majority of right thinking Americans did not agree with you when they elected him their president…and hopefully they will do so again, because they see beyond color when making important decisions.

      • Chuck brown

What about black people that think he is wrong.

        • Tommy

What about if they are wrong?

        • Jacques Shellac

They’re racists. Anyone who does not accept the sacred words of liberal Jesus without question is a racist homophobe. Probably a pedophile too.

Of course the way Bushitler was treated is totally different. He wasn’t even really the president. And FOX News needs to be censored in the name of free speech..

      • Jacques Shellac

Of course Obama can turn water into wine and walk on water. He’s liberal Jesus. Not like that Bushilter guy.

      • how awful of us to ever question our president because first of all he is our first black president. And we should never question our political leaders they always tell the truth he would never commit murder or treason and his birth certificate is set in stone we could never make a phony birth certificate you can only do that in Mexico. So let me get this right we cannot vote him out of office because he is our first black president but we can vote him into office. so murder does not count treason does not count Benghazi does not count crimes against the Constitution that don’t count taking away are right to defend ourselves against our government that don’t count so what does count if the man told the truth I would pass out you liberal fools believe what you want to and you cowardly bunch of congressmen set back and refuse to do anything about him. and please show me or tell me where to go to see him tell us he is a Christian and I will show you 10 videos that he says I am a muslem and those foolish Christians will never know because they never study so they wouldn’t know anyways makes me sick I’m out of here.

        • cathy

tim, from your comment i gather you watch fox news. are you aware it is actually entertainment, rather than actual news. that is why they can say anything w/o being held accountable. did you read the article? do you remember any of this happening. that’s reality tim, but maybe you missed it. what you espoused is the very reason this article was written. don’t you think more of yourself than to stoop so low and hurl invective delusion? try thinking better of yourself, and raise your standard for the way you treat others.

        • BadBranchCharlie

It doesn’t take a genius – or a lot of studying – to figure out how you TeaPubliKKKlan Treason Partiers came by those “opinions”. I hope to hell we can deport or HANG every last one of you, while we still have a country to save.

      • Ian

The very assertion that the reason for people disliking President Obama being the color of his skin is in and of itself an offensively racist and ignorant comment. By your statement of “you are in the minority”, I can only assume that you’re black… and by your other comments and the attitude in your words, I can also infer that you voted for the man largely (if not solely) for his pigmentation. As future events unfold and people such as yourself eventually are forced to face the truth, perhaps a light will come on and you will cast off your dogmatic racism.

        • B. Sene

Ian, I do believe that your comment is racist. I am white, and I voted for President Obama, and I agree with this article. “You are in the minority” because you apparently lost the last election. I did not vote for President Obama because of his “pigmentation.” I voted for him because I appreciate the direction he is taking our country. I agree with his policies.
It saddens me that our culture encourages hatred and disrespect of our elected officials.

          • Scott Reeves

Too bad your vision of America includes turning us into a Social-Democracy where elites make all the decisions cause they feel we don’t know enough to make it past sixty without their all encompassing ‘goodness’.

          • BadBranchCharlie

Scott Reeves, you are a LIAR, just like ALL TeaPubliKKKlan TREASON Partiers.

      • Scott Reeves

David, your blind to the truth, but your desire to see Obama succeed has over-ridden your ability to see what a poor leader he has been.
If Obama had not been black, there’s no way we would have ever seen him as president. The only thing that put him over the top was the millions of black votes from people who voted for him solely because they shared his skin color. Those voters demonstrated their own version of racism as they only needed two things to help them make up their minds. Obama is a Democrat and black.
Obama’s supporters ignored the fact he was utterly unqualified to hold our nations highest office. Before you say that I’m wrong and he was qualified, ask yourself, if a white junior senator without much experience ran for office as a Republican, you would have be screaming about his lack of qualifications.
EVERY Republican I know would have NO problem voting for a Black American, just as long as he was a proven and qualified leader with a full resume of experience and a background that included business acumen along with his political skills.
Hopefully our Country’s next president does not treat the job as an eight year golfing vacation on the taxpayer’s dime.

        • kelly payne

Scott Reaves..He has not had an 8 year golfing vacation and he’s a fine leader unlike his predecessor. How exactly is he a poor leader? You may want to talk to the speaker of the house about that he has been a fine leader. he is doing a fine job. and you are being an ass.

        • BadBranchCharlie

Scott Reeves: It doesn’t take a genius – or a lot of studying – to figure out how you TeaPubliKKKlan Treason Partiers came by those “opinions”. I hope to hell we can deport or HANG every last one of you, while we still have a country to save.

        • Barbara

In answer to this portion of your comment Scot… “Obama’s supporters ignored the fact he was utterly unqualified to hold our nations highest office. Before you say that I’m wrong and he was qualified, ask yourself, if a white junior senator without much experience ran for office as a Republican, you would have be screaming about his lack of qualifications”

Remember Sarah Palin??? You know, the highly unqualified woman from Alaska who would have been one heartbeat from said office?

    • Nothing intellectual about my comment ~~~ it’s down & dirty like Obama. I’m throwing his garbage back in his face as a public service.

      • You want to do a public service? Shut up.

        • Jacques Shellac

That’s right. Only the sacred Pharisees anointed in the holiness of liberal Jesus should be allowed to speak. Free speech is only for people who say what our Leftist overlords want them to say.

          • J

U are one of the biggest, racist, Dumb-ass idiots I’ve seen so far. U have never served your Country in any way (and holding your hand out is not serving) & u don’t know shit from shinola about defending a nation. I am a proud, upstanding United States Marine, & I DO know a thing or 2 about defending our Country. The fact that this guy was elected (twice) is an embarrassment (almost as much so as clinton). It’s funny how you liberals think you know what you’re talking about. Did u get all that world-class Intel from your welfare neighbor sharing a 40? U idiots need to quit worrying about silly-ass politicking & start getting concerned about defending our nation so we can continue to keep conflict off our soil (minus 911, thanks clinton). REDUCING OUR MILITARY SERVICES AND THEIR BUDGETS IS NOT THE WAY TO DEFEND A COUNTRY. IF U THINK IT IS, U SHOULD’NT BE HERE.

      • Sandra you are a hate filled racist, ignorant human being, and people like you are a HUGE part of the problem. Do us all a public service and get some counseling.

      • kelly payne

Sandra Stevens what garbage are referring to? Be specific.

    • And have, thats the thing these people need to understand the bible belt Christian whites are not the majority anymore. The landscape has changed diversity is a movement that some can stomach, so I have an idea for you, move to Canada

      • Scott Reeves

Yes, its too sad that the majority in this country is a group of people, made up of all races, who feel that the job of government is to provide for them everything they need. Welfare, Section 8, Medicare, WIC, CHIP, School Lunches, the list of the handouts given freely in exchange for votes and power goes on and on.
Black America has lead the vote for these handouts and the Democratic Party has been the bag-man as they shuffled money from one group to another.
I have one question. Black America, how far has this blind alligence to the Demos and their quest for elite power gotten you?

      • Joe watt

We don’t want any of you crazy Americans in Canada, the nice ones can come visit though, remember to bring your passport cause the US customs officers won’t let you back into your own country without it, that’s cause they don’t trust you once you have visited a socially forward thinking country. They think you may have been brainwashed by the cleanliness of our streets and niceness of the people you will meet here.( that was a joke , in case you don’t get it)
        Peace, JW

    • is he pseudo-arrogant in the way that your comment is pseudo-intellectual?

    • That is why your GOPers and TBaggers lost! You continue to condescend and patronize the people who supported the President. People like you are becoming extinct, and the GOP party is dead along with their racist, bigoted T Bagger Party. The world is changing, and Hispanics will be the majority and whites will be in the minority.

    • You lost! Get over it. You can call the President all the names you want because you know none of it is true, but your hatred, bias and racism is very real. You are so full of anger and hatred. See HELP NOW! You can hide behind your computer, but it is racists like you, is why your party lost. You threw everything you could at Obama, and he still rose and took all of the BS that you threw at him. Good triumphs evil each time. Racist whites will not flousish, and people of good will which includes non biased whites, blacks, asians, hispanics, gays and other people who see thrw people like you! People like you are no longer in charge. We are voting and we are voting in record numbers! Get used to it! Ameica is becoming more progressive. If you don’t like it, their are boats and planes to take you out of the United States, but guess what? All of the same people exist everywhere! LOL!

      • Mike

I feel sorry for all the black people who think whites don’t like Obama because of his skin color. That is so sad to me, and completely false 98 to 99% of the time.

The propaganda and mind control you absorb watching MSNBC has made you totally irrational and incapable of seeing things for what they really are.

Will you still love Obama when you’re FORCED to pay for health insurance you won’t use…………and then incur steep fines if you don’t?

The saddest part of all is that the people who really got Obama into office, the international bankers, are so happy about all this division their guy has created. He loves serving his masters just like George W Bush did.

        Wake up fools.

        • Jacques Shellac

Don’t be foolish. Leftists have lied about everything else. Obama’s poll numbers have tanked because of the ACA. So why wouldn’t they lie about the rising discontent among the American public, and declare that anyone who disagrees with them is a racist?

Besides. Democrats have always thought they owned Black people. First they enslaved them. Then they used Jim Crow to control their votes. Now they call Black people who vote Republicans as “race traitors”. Remember how Clarence Thomas was treated? Remember Oliphant’s cartoon depictions of Dr. Condi Rice?

Leftists are utterly shameless hypocrites. Don’t every be surprised at how low they go.

        • something that was missing from the article that is germane to this discussion would be shortly after PRESIDENT Obama was inaugurated and he invited the Republican leaders to the White House for dinner to develop a dialogue with them. he was open and willing to hear their views and gracious enough to declare any good ideas would be welcome. they all rebuffed him, implementing their strategy to thwart him. this was the first public attempt to humiliate him and set the hate in motion, providing the platform for all the denigration to follow. the irony is the spirit of President Obama overcame all their intent to make him knuckle under and finally began to erode their own base in the process. good overcomes evil.

        • mike, the ACA was the plan that the insurance lobby introduced to the Heritage Foundation. gov. romney implemented it in massachussetts while in office. President Obama wanted a single-payer system but the House republicans would not compromise when it was in the conference committee. that is their plan to keep the insurance industry in the trough. write your congress reps and find out how they voted.

    • David Olalekan Good post David! She is the reason why Obama won! In the old Sam Cooke song he sings, ” A Change is Gonna Come.” It certainly did and it will contiue to change as this world becomes more progressive, and the evil, racists die out! We will never return to the days of Jim Crow! NEVER! We will die to secure our rights for ourselves and our children’s future and people like her will either accept it, or leave the country.

    • Sandra,
      .
As an African American male, I can surely understand how a person might think I’m biased towards Obama. But I’ve trained myself to follow facts rather than emotion. So his being the first Black president aside – although it should be taken into account since it’s making his job twice as hard – the facts alone clearly demonstrate why history is going to smile upon President Obama as one of our greatest presidents.
      .
Just getting Osama Bin Laden alone would have put Bush, with all of his shortcomings, on Mt. Rushmore, but if you’ll notice, the fact that he was brought to justice by Obama is hardly mentioned by the GOP. One would never know what a huge national effort we mounted to go after that guy. In large part, that very effort is what helped to put us in the economic mess that we’re currently in today. Bush spent over a trillion dollars on that misadventure.
      .
In addition, the GOP has made a tremendous effort in insuring that the nation is always focused on what Obama HASN’T done, and absolutely NEVER mentions the fact that he all but singlehandedly save the world from plunging into a second Great Depression. Under George Bush the nation was hemorrhaging over 800,000 jobs a month:
      .
Forbes Magazine: Economically, Could Obama Be America’s Best President?
      .
“Firstly, let’s review just how bad things were in 2009. In 2000 America was completing the longest bull market in history. But by the end of President Bush’s tenure the country had witnessed 2 stock market crashes, and the DJIA had fallen 58%. This was the second worst market decline in history (exceeded only by the Great Depression), hence the term “Great Recession” was born.
      .
“In 2000, at the end of Clinton’s administration, the Consumer Confidence Index was at a record high 140. By January, 2009 this index had fallen to an historic low of 25.3. Comparatively, when Reagan took office at the end of the economically weak Carter years the Confidence Index was still at 74.4! Today this measure of how people feel about the country is still nowhere near 2000 levels, but it is almost 3 times better than 4 years ago.
      .
“Significantly, in 2000 America had a budget surplus. By 2009 surpluses were long gone and the country was racking up historic deficits as taxes were cut while simultaneously outlays for defense skyrocketed to cover costs of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, banks were on the edge of failing due to unregulated real estate speculation and massive derivative losses.
      .
“Today the Congressional Budget Office is reporting a $200B decrease in the deficit almost entirely due to increased revenue from a growing economy and higher taxes on the wealthiest Americans. The deficit is now only 4% of the GDP, down from over 10% at the end of Bush’s administration – and projections are for it to be only 2% by 2015 (before Obama leaves office). America’s “debt problem” seems largely solved, and almost all due to growth rather than austerity.
      .
“We can largely thank a fairer tax code, improved regulation and consistent SEC enforcement. Also, major strides in health care reform – something no other President has accomplished – has given American’s more faith in their future, and an increased willingness to invest.”
      http://www.forbes.com/sites/adamhartung/2013/05/16/economically-could-obama-be-americas-best-president/
      .
And let’s not forget that President Obama has had to drag America uphill while the entire Republic Party, which includes congress, and state officials, are hanging onto his ankles and determined to obstruct any effort to put money into the hands of poor and middle-class Americans – and that includes our veterans and active military personnel. The reason for that is because if they allow the American people to get their hands on disposable funds, they might start buying goods and services, and that will stimulate job growth, and the resulting tax revenue will improve the deficit, undermining the corpo-Republican agenda of keeping America miserable, angry, and divided.
      .
For that reason, in spite of the fact that the nation’s infrastructure is falling apart, the Republican congress is refusing to spend any money to improve our condition. In Colorado alone, 176 dams are on a restricted safety list (http://www.denverpost.com/environment/ci_24080336/dams-break-at-rocky-mountain-arsenal-and-larimer).
      .
But in spite of all the Republican obstruction, Obama has managed to accomplish the following:
      .
      A List of Obama Accomplishments
      http://pleasecutthecrap.com/what-has-obama-done-since-january-20-2009/
      .
So, yes, while I admittedly have a bias for this president, my assessment of him is based on cold, hard, facts. And the fact is, ironically, the Republican Party’s complete irresponsibility is all but assuring that history is going hail Obama as one of our greatest presidents, and frown upon the current Republican Party as petty, meanspirited, irresponsible, and in fact, the domestic enemy of the United States.
      .
Now, those are the facts, and everybody in America who’s not giving ideology priority over truth, knows it.

      • cane9man

Wattree, thank you for the completely factual and totally unbiased post.

I figured since you were lying I’d do the same.

“…he all but singlehandedly save (sic) the world from plunging into a second Great Depression.” The singularly stupidest remark that I’ve heard today, although not having listened to Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Chris Matthews, or Rachel Maddow yet today you might still get off the hook.

        • Tomato Cain

Thanks, Cane9man. The Dear Leader gets the disrespect he has spawned for himself by inciting class warfare and gender warfare, for the sake of himself. The race warfare in just something his minions threw in for good measure. He openly calls his rivals, Democrats and Republicans alike, by perjoratives. He takes an Oath of Office of the President twice, yet repeatedly threatens with “pen and a phone” to violate that very oath (but violating the US Constitution is epitome of the Progressive creed). He lies. Some people are still offended by lying Politicians, even in this time of ‘universal deceit’. Nixon would blush.

      • Red Foreman

Less not forget the other thing he has done to save the economy. As of today the national debt is $16,787,451,118,147. This is four times higher than it has ever been in history. This guarantee’s that our children and grand children will never have it as good as we have it now. The interest from this debt will have our descendants paying our debt for the next 250 to 280 yrs at minimum. Your right Obama has leveled the playing field. Now every one will be extremely poor or very rich. Thankyou Mr President for squandering the wealth of our country. Try solving it again by giving your friends more money with another Stimulas.

        • kelly payne

RED FOREMAN THE DEBT WAS 14 TRILLION WHEN HE GOT IN OFFICE SO GIVE IT A REST. MOST OF THAT WAS FROM THE BUSH YEARS.THE YEARLY DEFICIT HAS BEEN DROPPING FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS. WHICH MEANS THE GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN BURROWING LESS MONEY FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS.WHEN GOT INTO OFFICE THERE WAS A 230 BILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS. HOW USING SOME FACTS OR SHUT UP.

          • Tokumei Hito

Umm, if you’re going to blast someone for misrepresenting facts it might be a good idea to get the facts straight. Obama entered with 10.5 trillion not 14 trillion in debt and the deficit has only dropped the last few years because of gridlock, thus little to no spending because nothing can be approved. Bush entered with roughly 5.5 trillion, so Bush added roughly 5 trillion in debt while so far Obama added roughly 7.2 trillion (debt is now 17.7 trillion, graph only shows up to 2012). The majority of that increase in spending came with a Democratic congress spanning both presidencies… this matters more since it is actually Congress that controls the spending, the president only makes suggestions.

      • that was such a great comment, but his detractors can’t hear. they are oblivious to actual facts, and only accept the propaganda. i admire your scholarship when posting this.

    • ksmoger321

No, but the president of the united states at least the post does deserve respect, the american flag, the constitution need to be respected, even if he as a person does not deserve respect. The president still, was elected and does hold the position and that cannot be disrespected no matter the politics.

    • Jrmngrl

      You’re an idiot!

    • DAve

Funny thing that people often ignore, the Democrats never actually had full control over congress as they never actually had the 60 votes you need in senate to overturn a filibusterer. Al Franken, who would have been the Democrats 60th Senate seat, wasn’t seated until after Ted Kennedy went into the hospital.

    • kelly payne

SANDRA STEVENS OBAMA IS NOT A BULLY AND HE HAS NEVER BEEN NASTY TO ANYONE UNLIKE CERTAIN REPUBLICANS. HE HAS NEVER GIVEN ANY INDICATION OF BEING ARROGANT EITHER.HE IS NOT A LOW LIFE AND HE HAS NEVER BEEN A DRUG DEALER. WERE YOU SOBER WHEN YOU CAME UP WITH THAT?

    • stephen

wow.. who made you god… you state a bully… wow unbelievable … look in the mirror and you will see what a real bully low-life is… you must be smoking somthing.. asshole

    • Rick Brooks

Sandra, what you said tells everyone what you are about..HATE!!!!

    • BadBranchCharlie

“In your opinion”? And it doesn’t take a genius – or a lot of studying – to figure out how you TeaPubliKKKlan Treason Partiers came by those “opinions”. I hope to hell we can deport or HANG every last one of you, while we still have a country to save.

  3. We certainly showed W more respect than he deserved. The lack of respect shown Pres. Obama is partly a function of racism, certainly, but it’s also due to a general decline in civility among Americans. That’s something we all can help fix, everyday, in little ways.

    • So true Ed. If someone said anything against W you were unamerican.

    • Really? When exactly did Democrats show respect for Bush?

I recall seeing continious loathing and name calling from Democrats towards Bush, I don’t recall seeing much respect.

      • Tomato Cain

The could because the liberal Main Stream Media backed up the Democrat machine. But now the MSM news cycle sounds more like The Dear Leader’s own press corps. Journalist have been fired for reporting unfavorably.

    • No. If you say anything against Obama, you’re racist. THAT is how it is. The disrespect comes from people who see the truth. A lot of those, are American Veterans that Democrats say are already over paid. Those who defend him are the ones who chose to be blind. They call themselves “Politically correct.”

      • SeattleGuy

You do realize the American Veterans have a single payer, government-run healthcare program, don’t you, Iram Carmona? And you do know that it is the GOP legislators who are undermining the benefits and salary of the troops, don’t you? And that Republicans think those who work for the government are moochers? Why do you vote for these turkeys?

    • Heather Sarah Adams , you tell them. As I recall, Obama wanted to bring Bush up on “War crimes”. Right…..

  4. Respect for the presidency started going down with President Nixon and has continued downhill from.
there. I think if Obama were white, very little of this would be happening!

    • You really think it started with Nixon? Try going much, much further back. How about the political cartoons condemning James Madison and his tax policy during the war of 1812? How about the multitude of political antagonism shown Abraham Lincoln? Disrespect to the President is as old as the Union itself.

    • And don’t forget how bigots claimed that JFK would be more loyal to the Vatican than to the United States. And wasn’t the father of the Koch Brothers one of the most vocal in calling JFK a traitor?

    • Tomato Cain

Nixon made his bed too. But Presidents are never elected by unanimous vote, and whether deserved or not, people are going to dissent. For example: Pres. Lincoln.

  5. Waaaa saws. Sucked it up. All presidents are dissed by the other party. For now we still have free speech in America. I have no respect for obama and that is my right.

    • You have a right to be ignorant, disrespectful and racist. No one is coming after you, this is America. Yopu are still ignorant, disrespectful and racist. Go ahead and insult me, you have the right.

      • gburke

Marta Garcia yes the first amendment does give all of us the freedom of speech, however, there are consequences for some speech. Try yelling bomb in an airport! Or fire in a nightclub. Some serious consequences may be in store for that sorry person. Most people don’t realize that everyone needs to choose their words before speaking. A lot of the people on this thread sound pretty ignorant to me and don’t understand the consequences. I was taught respect for the office of our President. I didn’t much care for President Bush, but I was never disrespectful when talking about it. What people don’t realize is their hateful personalizing of our president. It’s not what he is doing so much as who he is. They don’t know they are doing it because it’s usually just parroting anyway. Critical thinking is dead in America for most conservatives.

    • Amen. . . Thanks for the comment . . I am right there with you . .

  6. Obama is not the first president against whom such hatred has been directed, nor is it the worst. To see this in perspective, you should read, “The Unpopular Mr. Lincoln” by Larry Tagg. Lincoln was villified like no other president, before or since. No one really understood the part that he played in the war, or among his party members. He wanted the bloodshed to end, and to welcome the South back into the fold. The rest of his party wanted only to punish the rebels, and, indeed, they had their way, after the assassination. The result was lasting bitterness, that endures to the present day. The respect that we have today for Lincoln came only after he was dead.
Most of the hatred aimed at Obama today is steeped in racism, bitterness, and ignorance. Most of those who hurl invective at him do not understand the man at all.

  7. wow what a dumb list. You are confused…self-importance does not come anyone’s “title” or position in an institution you simpleton. It comes from who you are as a person, not connected or related to any job position. You’ll never understand if you don’t already…foolish, simple, trash.

    • ksmoger321

Its the idea or the belief, you are willing to spit on this guy, but are you willing to spit on the constitution, declaration of independence, american flag or this country in general. Its about the principal not the man. I personally hate Obama’s politics and I’m a democrat, but I respect the office of the president and just like bush I give him the same respect at least to the office as any other president.

He’s earned every single disrespect which has been given him. I have no sympathy for him. He has none for America. He has disrespected our constitution, our bill of rights, all humanity, our flag, our people. He has committed treason in many ways. Pooooor pititul President, gets disrespected. How sad. Pour it on him.

  20. George

He’s a FRAUD. Maybe when he shows his REAL birth certificate instead of his JOKE he will get some respect although it looks highly DOUBTFUL he has the correct paperwork and that is the CRUX of his problem.

  21. Jeff

Republican: I don’t like President Obama because he is the most liberal president we ever have. He advocates changing over two hundred years of policy (capitalism and democracy) that has made this country the most prosperous and most powerful country the world has ever known. He has divided us even more than what we are. His main “accomplishment” was a dismal failure. He has nothing to show for his five years of his presidency other than playing more golf than Tiger Woods and lying more often than Bill Clinton. He has shown that all he does is read well off a TelePrompter.

Democrat: you are a stupid racist, ignorant a-hole. He is black and had it harder because of that. You stupid jerk. You’re mean and rude.

All you people are crazy to say “oh yeah you white people are a minority now and republicans are dead.”

How do you think this country got to where we are today? Do you like this country? Do you like its safety and freedom? If you complain, you obviously haven’t been to another country. Why do you want democrats to turn this country into a socialist republic? Have you not seen what happens to socialist and communist countries? You should look at that.

Republican philosophy: you’re responsible for yourself, don’t be lazy and get to work, build our military and teach good values, give to the poor

Democrat philosophy: welfare for everybody and the more money you make, the more the government takes, government ran everything; government is the solution, government can make everything better, preach at everyone to give to the poor but not us, no values and no judging of criminals, no death penalty for evil but death to innocent babies.

Yeah, those of you that want republicans gone… not going to happen. There will be a civil war before that happens and my money is on the people who like to work and aren’t lazy

  22. Shewanna

What a load of rubbish written by racist people of mediocre intelligence. What they are saying is that if you don’t like Obama’s favorite flavor of ice cream, you are racist. Now let’s hear Lauren write about Obama’s disrespect for Americans through comments he made such as “And it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations,”.

  23. The world and this country needs to be purged and cleansed because it’s truly truly pathetic. What else is there to say. Nothing but pure evil and hatred.it’s time for an intervention but from whom????

  24. Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an very long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t appear. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyhow, just wanted to say fantastic blog!

  26. Zaxck

You crazy. Just because your granddaddy got beat up for not being able to prove he is legal, on the spot, you are out trying to defend another black man who is rightfully being questioned and asked to show his proof.

Now, Obama is refusing, not just saying “I forgot my wallet”, and no one is putting him in a cell beating the shit out of him.

What you are saying is, If Obama is an illegal, it is ok and that he should not be questioned about it because he is like your granddaddy, a black man being discriminated against.

Everyone should be questioned. Black, White, Hispanic, Chinese, etc. If you hold a position in our Government, you most definitely better be able to prove your a LEGAL citizen.

As a government employee, your privacy dont exist. You give that right up when you Joined the Govt.

Thank you very much!… for pointing out how honest and considerate the president really is while other people try to put him down. Perhaps you can explain a few concerns which the president simply wont’ explain?
We still do not have the following Obama records:

    1. The long form original birth certificate (now knowing it was not destroyed by fire)
    2. Obama’s kindergarten records;
    3. his Punahou School records;
    4. his Occidental College records;

    6. his Columbia thesis ( Michelle Obama’s has been released and hers is racist from the start)

Also why his half brother has destroyed his “Dreams of my Father” pointing out the father was a monster and violent drunk.

    Thank you….

WOW! It occurs to me that you share the belief that the President is both an imposter and the tip of a gigantic international conspiracy. If you can’t find any of the above, I would suggest that you are either a poor researcher, or –based on your take of Michelle’s thesis — its more likely that the President is savvy enough not to give conservative trolls more to pick apart. In any event, I’ve a few questions if I may: How would that conspiracy work, precisely? What vision of the United States would that conspiracy look like if it worked? Who’s directing it? I’ve heard “follow the money”, but the money all seems to go back to the Republican House — they hold the purse strings. It also occurs to me that if there is a conspiracy of this size, it would require thousands of co-conspirators, and be impossible to keep secret. Look at Nixon. Have you ever heard of a “tell all” book by an obscure relative that ISN’T critical? Why do you accept his version over the President’s book? Is the second version always the truer version? Does it make a more compelling argument, or is it merely in closer alignment to your own beliefs? How do you know the half-brother didn’t simply sell his name to a politically-motivated hatchet jobber? Finally, please explain how a black president is a better front man than a rich middle aged white guy to sell an agenda as politically divisive as this. Frankly, I don’t see it, no matter how much I drink.

      Thanks for your

I’m threatened by President Obama and his ability to kill American citizens without due process.

  31. Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an very long comment but
after I clicked submit my comment didn’t appear. Grrrr…
well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyway, just wanted to say
    great blog!

My website … web page (Felicia)

  32. 1. In reference to the words “Superiority Syndrome,” as a psychologist I can tell you that there is no such psychological “syndrome,” except, perhaps in the author’s own somewhat confused mind.
    2. The WHO officially recognizes the US as the 3rd worst educated country in the world and it is addle-brained “articles” such as the one above that cause the rest of the world to believe it.
    3. Anyone who has spent 10 minutes in an authentic American History class will understand that our founders deliberately chose the title of President and deliberately chose to address the President as “Mr. President” so as to: a.) Deliberately create a political position that was/is equal to, NOT above, the citizens he was elected to serve, and b.) To implicitly make clear that the President is in no way royalty, he does not represent reality and, most importantly, the president serves the people NOT the other way around.
    4. The author should be aware, but apparently is not, of the fact that there is a factual difference between the meaning of “respect” (to allow consideration of a persons position for example—however it has been near a century since ordinary communication between people began with “My dear sir”) and civilitude versus abject deference, as one would do for royalty.
    5. Concerning the “public nature of disrespect towards President Obama is noteworthy,” it may be helpful for the author to understand that:
    a. The job of president is a “public” job and despite Mr. Obama’s wish to keep his public service private, in that his job IS as a public servant a public reaction is both normal and to be expected.
    b. Calling Mr. Obama after he publicly admitted he is NOT an American, a fail to appear in the Georgia court where that legal questing was placed is, in fact, legally admitting the truth of the allegation, QED. Therefore calling a self-admitted foreigner “president” when he was not eligible to run for president in the first place seems almost delusional (especially in view of the fact that American citizens do not have the power to elect a non qualified person as president, the congress has no power to validate an illegal “election,” nor does the mere act of being “sworn in” constitute a validation or exception to any of the qualifications required under the Constitution or American Law.
    c. Further, it is clear that Mr. obama does not share the same reverence for his job or for those Americans who (supposedly) gave him his job. In fact it is clear that Mr. obama is quite hostile to those people he was “elected” to serve—further, it is normal in human nature to return like for dislike or love for hate—as a result it seems odd that obama or his supporters should expect gratitude for having their livelihoods taken from them, or to those who are still employed to be grateful for higher taxes, or for parents to be thankful for a school system that is the worst in the world.
    6. And last, to expect a people who have the Constitutional Right to express their anger, or their disagreement with another “American,” and to his face, would seem in the best tradition of those freedoms we Americans have expressed in the First Amendment Right to Free Speech.
As a side note, for a reasonably intelligent person to claim that Americans should censure themselves seems when expressing their legitimate concerns (even if their concerns were not legitimate, Americans still have the absolute right to express them as long as no violence is done—despite Mr. obama’s claims of exemption from Constitutional restraints) absurd at the very least and rather childish on the whole.

    • Correcting a type-o or two.

To implicitly make clear that the President is in no way royalty, he does not represent royalty and, most importantly, the president serves the people NOT the other way around.

further, it is NOT normal in human nature to return like for dislike or love for hate…

      To conclude:
Respect is generally a function of gratitude for a job well done or for a kindness shown a person or peoples. Unfortunately, and despite the propaganda to the contrary, Mr. obama has done little, if anything, to help the American people, but in fact has in 5 short years spent more than every other president combined–with zero progress to show for it–, has ignored and allowed to be killed more than one person acting on his behalf, and has supported financially and other ways Americas enemies and has clearly stepped over the line of what is traitorous on more than one occasion.
To conclude therefore it would seem beyond common sense to appreciate, “respect,” the man, his office or in fact anything he has done since being “elected.”

  33. […] session of Congress, Boehner refuses a Presidential request to address Congress. President Obama sure has a lot of “firsts” under his belt. And yet, he still ran for a second term and he still serves. The man might just have the thickest […]

  35. Sharon

To all the anti-Obama/Democrats posting here…very sad commentary. You try to negate and defame the only US President in decades, who has not been involved in personal, political or National Security scandals all you want…

Then let’s bring back Nixon, Bush Snr., Clinton, Bush Jnr…would you TRULY trust one of them to replace Obama?

In 2014, there’s no candidate from the GOPs’ who’s even close to being qualified to be a potential US President…so who were you thinking could replace Obama…and make a huge, positive impact on the US?

    • Scott Reeves

How did you write all that; with your head buried so deep in the sand?

      • R Johnson

You must still be in high school with such an eloquently put rebuttal to her post. C’mon, you can’t be any more insightful than what you wrote? You must be a true scholar to come up with something so brilliant as that pathetic contribution…

  36. You mean BEST moments of disrespect.
Respect is EARNED, not just assumed. And this man has earned very little.

  37. […] privileged toward progress and equality:  that whites are heading for minority status, that our democratically-elected President is black, that women can participate in society as equals, that gay and lesbian soul […]

  38. Asia

I a lways felt that the president was better than me, even with the world watching him he gets disrespected. And he just take it I would have told all those crackers a long time ago to eat out my ass. He was setup to fail since day one. Everything he tried to do Congress was against it. And yet my tax dollars pays Congress to sit on there ass and do nothing but complain and play golf. After seeing this is how the presidency work I think they should do away with Congress and all decisions fall on the president. And his chief of staff. The American people has turned in to spoiled brats. We don’t stand strong as a nation as one as we tend to have Others believe. We all look like a pack of idiots.

  39. Asia

I would just love for him to put all his critics and haters in their place at least one time before he left office. Lord knows I would The finger in his face thing just did it for me. How could he hold so much restraint. I Myself applaud him it shows the man he is and character.

  40. Grace Christus

I am so discouraged. The quality of American political discourse is vulgar, rude, unintelligent, and knee-jerk coarse. I can deal with differences in opinion, but America has become a dangerous and hateful place. It makes me so sad because I love this country.

  41. R Johnson

After 37 years of life, attending all predominantly white schools, having a career with predominantly white teammates, and having a relatively equal number of black to white friends, I”ve never felt so unwelcome in my own country as I do now. With the blatant disrespect of our nations FIRST non-white President, to the Mike Brown situation in Ferguson and how so many Americans have no compassion for a black CHILD being gunned down for walking in the street, I don’t ever remember a time that I felt so “out of place”; even the many instances of “in your face” racism and being called the N word, etc. I’ve never felt like such a “burden” on society in this country as I do now. I was very fortunate to be afforded an excellent education, elected a career in software engineering which has been very good to me financially, never felt like I couldn’t afford to do whatever it was I wanted, but for some reason, I still feel like an “outcast” just for being born black. It doesn’t make me as angry as it just plain hurts, hurts my feelings to be thought of in the same vein as we learned about in history classes…it just hurts…

    • NotAPoliticalSycophant

Oh get over yourself and put that massive chip down a minute before you injure your shoulder. I’m a software engineer in silicon valley too, and I’m Caucasian, and _I_ feel like an outcast just for not being born Indian. Seriously dude, get a grip. There’s massive racism in software engineering today, but it’s equally applied to everyone who is American of any color, as long as you aren’t Indian. The contracting companies ignore resumes that aren’t from Indians. Our co-workers ostracize us by openly speaking in Hindi or Telugu instead of English so we can’t participate in discussions. Indian co-workers will hire a complete novice from India and then bend over backward to help them, but then refuse to recommend an American (of _any_ color or ethnicity) who has four out of five coverage on the required skills. I’ve lived in the US for twenty years, and despite my wide association with African-Americans and Hispanics not only have I never heard anyone use the N-word except black people, the only people I’ve seen behave with aggressive hostility with a trigger finger, are African Americans. If anyone had told me I’d find this before I came here, I’d have called them a liar. Pretty much, I’ve been shocked to find that Bill Cosby’s essay on the short-falls of African-American attitudes in the US was right on the money, and that makes me sadder than anything considering how much money, effort, and unjustified preferential consideration in every matter of employment and education the nation has poured into the African-American community over the last forty years. Whatever issues you face, they are of your own making. Stop idolizing murder-music and behavior like this thug in Ferguson who beat-up an innocent, puny, (Asian?) shop-keeper, and start taking responsibility and holding these thugs to account. Then come talk about being ostracized, because for the most part any distance people keep from African-Americans can be laid firmly at the feet of the entitled, aggressive and hostile attitudes the community projects all around it.

The office of the president , is an elected office. He is and always has been subjected to question and ridicule. That is the WHOLE POINT madame. The office of the president was designed and meant to be an equal ampng equals, a figurehead and tie breaker, not a godhead, not a Kaiser, not Ceasar , not king, not emperor. It is not only OK, to show dissent, but required, that we always , in perpetuity understand that this office, unlike most anywhere in the world must be subject to question. If you are suggesting the only reason he’s been subject to this level of criticism is because of his origin, perhaps you should look at documents from two centuries of history that will prove to you , that Barach Obama is definitely not the only president who has been questioned, ridiculed ,picked on , had fingers pointed at..in fact he’s gotten off rather easily considering the bounds he’s crossed with his authority.

When his term is up, I bet you anything that he’s going to speak on how racism still exists. He has taken the high road in each situation as a President should. It’s OK to not agree but to take it to disrespect is something completely different. No other President has been treated as such.

It doesn’t take a genius – or a lot of studying – to figure out how these TeaPubliKKKlan Treason Partiers came by their “opinions”. I hope to hell we can deport or HANG every last one of them, while we still have a country to save. It’s way past time to stomp the “New Confederacy” into the mud so deep that there’s no chance of it ever being resurrected again.

Seriously, for a president who has been so astoundingly disrespectful of the rule of law, the constitution, the People, and his duties as president … is there any such thing as too many acts of disrespect toward him? Skin color is irrelevant when it comes to incompetence and arrogance, and this _man_ has an excess abundance of both that dwarfs every president before him – and I thought there could be no bigger fool in the Oval Office than Jimmy Carter was. As always, I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong – Obama is by far a bigger fool than Carter ever was, and that is really saying something.
