Raw Talk: Tax Cuts are Easy and Why Obama Should Be a Redskins Fan
Politic365 Managing Editor Charles D. Ellison and Chief Political Correspondent Dr. Jason Johnson engage in a bit of pre-holiday Raw Talk on the payroll tax cut impasse, the death of Kim Jong Il and what that means for the world and why the last home game of the Washington Redskins is significant for the upcoming election year.
“You have the beginning of the end,” says Johnson on the payroll tax cut drama unfolding on Capitol Hill. ”House Republicans want to add all these different riders to the bill. And they also don’t want the payroll tax cut issue being an election issue in 2012 that Obama can take advantage of.”
How did this issue get pushed to the front? “Because their [House Republicans] ideological fervor is directly related to the hue of the guy in the White House. If Obama says the sky is blue, Republicans are going to fuss that it’s red. The ideological morass is so huge that nothing can get done.”
And, why are we so hype on tax cuts in the first place? “Tax cuts sound good. Jobs are difficult to create and cuts are easy.”
