Politic365‘s Managing Editor Charles D. Ellison talks with Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) about her recently introduced bill to “repeal” the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction – otherwise known as the “Debt Super Committee.” Waters raises concerns that the Committee is “unconstitutional” as it overrides Congress’ budget authority and process.
As a result, the Congresswoman representing CA’s 35th District recently introduced a bill amending the Budget Control Act of 2011 and eliminating the bi-partisan, bi-cameral Super Committee. The bill can be read here.
“Not only does it meet in secret,” argues Waters, “but I’ve never felt that it was constitutional or that it was constitutional in the way it is supposed to be run.”
“If they were not able to accomplish these cuts [through negotiations], defense will get a 10% cut and they are going to change the rules. They are going to change the rules in the middle of the game.”
