Obama Family Vacations In Hawaii for the Holidays

The Aloha State has welcomed the President, Mrs. Obama and their family for the holiday break. It’s a welcome change of pace for the Obamas from the brutal cold of Washington, D.C.

President Obama joined his family on vacation in Hawaii on Wednesday after a marathon of legislative victories in Washington, D.C. – including the repeal of the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ military policy, food safety upgrades, and the ratification of the START treaty, just to name a few. Congress vowed to work until the final hours before Christmas and the president stayed behind in the nation’s capital to work with them.

The Obama family is staying at a rental home in Kailua and taking in a range of activities.  Since his arrival, the president has golfed, watched basketball, took his daughters to the beach, and is reading a book about former President Ronald Reagan. The First Family enjoyed Christmas dinner together on Saturday.

One of the highlights of the trip so far for the family was visit to Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Kaneohe Bay. They dropped in on troops to deliver holiday well wishes to military personnel. President and Mrs. Obama also used this week’s address to the nation to pay special tribute to the hard work of those who serve America’s armed forces.

“America’s brave servicemen and women represent a small fraction of our population. But they and the families who await their safe return carry far more than their fair share of the burden,” the president remarked.

“Let’s all remind them this holiday season that we’re thinking of them — and that America will forever be here for them, just as they’ve been there for us,” Obama added.

The president will not be completely unplugged from the office while in Hawaii, though. He is receiving daily intelligence briefings among other Administration business he must handle.
