According to the New York Times, pop-culture icon and talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has secured the second prime time television interview with former President George W. Bush to discuss his post-Presidency book Decision Points. The interview is scheduled a day after NBC Today Show Matt Lauer’s interview on Nov. 8.
Ms. Winfrey’s interview is notable in part because she showed her Democratic leanings by being an avid supporter of President Obama during the campaign in 2008.
“The Oprah Winfrey Show” said on Friday that its Nov. 9 episode will also feature an exclusive visit to the Bush family’s Kennebunkport estate and interviews with former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush.
Ahead of the book’s scheduled drop, President Bush recently released a YouTube video introduction which can be found here.
Decision Points, already ranked #1 on the Amazon.com bestsellers list ahead of its Nov. 9 release date, is a memoir expected to detail Bush’s life, “gripping, never-before-heard detail about the 2000 election” and decisions made during the 9/11 attacks.
Said Crown Publishers in a statement:
Since leaving the Oval Office, President Bush has given virtually no interviews or public speeches about his presidency. Instead, he has spent almost every day writing ‘Decision Points,’ a strikingly personal and candid account revealing how and why he made the defining decisions in his consequential presidency and personal life.
