Haiti’s election commission has yet to formally announce if it is tossing Wyclef Jean’s hat out of the ring. However, an electoral official told the L. A. Times that the Haitian-born entertainer, activist and philanthropist is ineligible to run for president of the Caribbean Island because he lives primarily in New Jersey.
“He is not on the list as I speak,” said the member of the country’s provisional electoral council, who asked not to be identified.
It’s the same news, different day.
By all other accounts, Jean as well as the residents of Haiti continue to wait for an official announcement from the commission, which said it would deliver one today. Earlier in the week, Jean said that he was allowing his attorneys to hash out the details regarding his special residency status based on the roving ambassadorship appointed to him by current President Preval.
