Former White House social secretary Desiree Rogers has been named CEO of Johnson Publishing Co. and will be charged with overseeing its day-to-day operations and aligning core business strategies for the company’s brands.

Linda Johnson has stepped down as CEO but will remain in her role as chairman of the Chicago-based company.

In June, Rogers was brought on as a consultant for Johnson Publishing Co, parent of Jet and Ebony magazines.  Last month when Anne Sempowski Ward resigned as president and COO, it was speculated that Rogers would step into the vacant position though Johnson Publishing released a statement saying she would remain a consultant.

Desiree Glapion Rogers is a Chicago socialite, philanthropist and businesswoman who has leveraged her contacts and influence to help a wide variety of causes. She was  previously president of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas.
