Wyclef Jean to Announce Run for President of Haiti

Recording artist Wyclef Jean, who became a major advocate for Haitian relief after the country’s devastating earthquake, is now set to announce his candidacy for president, sources say.

Jean will announce exclusively on “Larry King Live” that he is running for president of Haiti, according to CNN.

A native of Haiti, Jean has been a vocal fundraising and organizer of economic programs in the country, especially since the January quake that left more than 220,000 dead, 300,000-plus injured and more than 1 million homeless.

The Grammy award-winning is a self-described goodwill ambassador and a humanitarian.

Through his Yele Haiti Foundation founded in 2005, Jean has addressed such issues as education, sports, the arts, community service and the environment.
