Actor Blair Underwood is an attendee and participant of the NAACP 101st annual convention this week as spokesperson for NXT Nutritionals Holdings, Inc.
NXT is developer and marketer of SUSTA™ natural sweetener, according to a press release from the company.
Underwood is participating in several of the convention activities and delivered remarks at the convention Monday and also announced a health care partnership on issues such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes and mental health.
“The reason I chose NAACP is its history and its credibility,” Underwood said. “And if you want to get the message out in the African American community and do it in such a way that it’s heard and it resonates with people, the NAACP is the place to go.”
In its release, NXT stated, “An acclaimed American television and film actor, director, producer and entrepreneur, Mr. Underwood is committed to educating consumers about healthy ways to combat the country’s burgeoning obesity and diabetes epidemics. He is participating in several of the convention activities, and (delivered) remarks (during) the First Plenary Session.”
Nutrition and health have been recurring themes at the convention, which hosted First Lady Michelle Obama speaking about childhood obesity initiatives early on in the convention.
