Michael Steele Tries to Explain Himself to Other Republicans

Michael Steele, in an effort to cover himself before his fellow Republicans, gave a stirring address Saturday to deal with those who are challenging his position as chairman of the Republican National Committee.

“I’m the first here to admit that I’ve made mistakes, and it’s been incumbent on me to take responsibility to shoulder that burden, make the necessary changes and move on,” said Steele.

“The one mistake we cannot make this November is to lose.”

The speech was given to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, and it was Steele’s first public appearance since it was disclosed that he has been spending RNC funds in a questionable fashion. The most famous expenditure was a $2,000 tab at a California Night Club that featured simulated lesbian sex and other “interesting” activities.
